EASHL Championship Finals Set: Purple Cobraz vs The NHL Regulators

In every sport there can only be one winner. Over the past year, thousands have teamed up in the first ever EA SPORTS Hockey League in NHL 09 to bring their individual game to a new league where team play allowed our gamers to play together like never before.

For the past three weeks, sixteen of the top teams in the league have been invited to take part in an Online tournament to determine two Console Champions in the EASHL Invitational. This past Saturday, the two Console Champions have been crowned as big ups go to The NHL Regulators and Purple Cobraz who will be representing the PlayStation 3 and XBOX 360 consoles respectively.

“It’s an amazing feeling to be crowned the best team on the XBOX 360,” says Brandon LeBourveau aka DoMiNaTioN x21 one of the GM’s of the Purple Cobraz. “When I first heard about the new EASHL last summer, I knew I wanted to win the Championship.”

As Console Champs alongside the Purple Cobraz, The NHL Regulators will have their top six players in attendance in Vancouver from August 5th - August 7th to take part in a Best-of-Seven game series to crown the inaugural EASHL Champion.

“It’s exciting,” replies Bobby Jones aka Jones412pa one of the GM’s of The Regs. “Who would have thought playing a game would give you a chance to do something like this.”

The console finals this past Saturday saw some intense competition between the Final Four as The Regs defeated the #1 ranked No CryBabys by the score of 4-1 to take the PS3 title. On the 360 end the Cobraz needed to come from behind late in the game with a tying goal from LeBourveau, and then NfldTim scored the overtime winner to defeat the favored White Church in their final 2-1.

“We had to battle through a lot of adversity in that game especially since we spent the majority of the first two periods killing off penalties,” comments LeBrourveau. Don’t tell these guys that gaming is entirely different than actual sports as the similarities in their approach to the game are not unlike those that championship teams face. “As the time was winding down in the in the third and we trailed 1-0, we were all getting extremely nervous but I think that our experience this season helped us prevail. We know that this is a 60-minute game and we have to play hard to the final buzzer.”

On the PS3 end, The Regs had somewhat of an easier time skating to their victory. “We expected a closer game,” says Jones. “We capitalized on just about every chance we had and controlled the game using all five of our skaters.”

The Championship series in Vancouver brings both teams face to face while at the same time, it will bring the individual teams face-to-face as many on teams play from different cities altogether.

“Our chances are good if we can snag a game on the XBOX and play well on our console,” replies Jones when asked about the upcoming series which will have teams crossing over into both consoles.

“We are going to Vancouver with one goal in mind: Win the EASHL Championship. We will be ready to play each and every game and are not too worried about having to play on the PS3 console,” continues LeBourveau. > MORE

EASHL Championship Finals

Championship Game will take place in Vancouver. The teams will play in a Best-of-Seven series to take place August 5th-7th. The Purple Cobraz "home Ice" will be the X-box 360 while The NHL Regulators will be Defending the PS3. Each team will have to adapt to both consoles quickly in order to win the championship.

It would be pretty sweet if thePensblog could set up a similar tournament?!?!
